Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you decide to become a chiropractor?

I'm from a family with seven children. Now, there are six of us left as we lost one of my brothers. I remember when I was growing up that my mother would take us to the medical professionals when something was wrong. But, although she took us to mainline medical practitioners, when we got home we would be treated with alternative remedies, even though alternative care wasn't really popular at that time. I don't recall taking any kind of medication when I was growing up, and that is what probably started me thinking of becoming a healer … and here I am…. A chiropractor!

What is a chiropractor?

Chiropractors are doctors who are trained in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects these disorders have on general health. The emphasis is on removing subluxations (bone misalingments) from the spine or any joint in the body by realigning them. As we know disease (dis-ease) is caused by abnormal function of the nervous system. The basic philosophy of chiropractic is that the body will heal itself, when the right doors are unlocked.

Traditional chiropractic treaments remove the misalignment, however and unfortunatley, a misalignemnt will happen 3-4 hours, 2-4 days, 30-40 days after the traditional chiropractic manipulation.

The technique that is used by Dr. Azim will keep the alignment of the spine by strengthening the ligaments permanently.

Chiropractic is a safe and effective way to restore the body to its full potential and it assists patients to overcome all types of ailments ranging from sore muscles and achy joints to more serious health problems.

Chiropractic is one of the safest and least-invasive healing methods that gives an overall therapeutic effect on the body.

At Advanced Chiropractic Solutions our focus is to provide permanent posture corrections, spinal regeneration, and permanent pain relief and we specialize in individuals with scoliosis (especially scoliosis under 30 degrees), carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines, back and disc problems.

The Pettibon postural regenerative programs are unique from all other rehabilitation programs and standard chiropractic treatments. With Pettibon rapid results are possible, not only in an individual's posture but ultimately in changing their overall health.

Dr. Azim, how are you different from other chiropractors?

I am like the orthodontist of chiropractractors. I objectively and permanently move bones to relieve nerve tensions and impingements. Traditional chiropractic focuses mainly on subluxations and correcting them. Unfortunately, not much attention or focus is put onto the curves or the posture and so treatment of the subluxations, while it may provide temporary relief, generally does not result in long-term, permanent correction. Posture corrections and pain relief are permanent with Pettibon.

Why have you started using the Pettibon system instead of continuing with traditional chiropractic protocols?

I have focused a lot on rehabilitation and sports injuries, and have been involved in over 10,000 treatments ranging from frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, golf elbow to degenerative joint disease and chronic disorders. And, unfortunately, though I saw results from these treatments, I became increasing dissatisfied believing that greater, more dramatic results were possible. You see, I care a lot about my patients, their quality of life and their general well-being. I want them to be able to get back into their lives and have the same, or perhaps, even a better quality of life because they have received the best medical care possible for their condition -- that is why I became a Pettibon Specialist.

What is the biggest difference between The Pettibon System and traditional chiropractic?

Traditional chiropractic focuses mainly on subluxations and correcting them. Unfortunately, not much attention or focus is put onto the curves or the posture and so treatment of the subluxations, while it may provide temporary relief, generally does not result in long-term, permanent correction. On the other hand, the results that can be achieved with The Pettibon system are mind-blowing. It even blows my mind when I compare before and after x-rays of patients. It is incredible that, with Pettibon, I can move bone, muscle and ligament and restore normal curvature back to the spine!

What is a subluxation?

A vertebral subluxation is a relatively common condition in which a spinal vertebra has lost its proper position with one or both of its neighboring vertebrae which interferes with the nervous system.

Why does The Pettibon System put so much emphasis on muscle rehabilitation, especially isometric exercise procedures?

Spinal muscles are made up of two types of fibers: phasic and postural. Most muscles contain both types of fibers but one can be predominant within a muscle. Kinetic exercises like those used in gyms work for phasic muscles. They'll gain strength and endurance within 90 days. Postural muscles require exercising eight times longer. And they respond best to isometric exercise.

Can't I just do some of the same exercises at the gym or on exercise balls and get the same results?

Exercises in local gyms and/or health clubs use isotonic (kinetic) exercises that utilize phasic muscles. These exercises will make a person strong; however, they will not help, and often times hinder, correction of the spine and posture. All the wishing and good intentions in the world are not going to help that person to stand up straight. Because if the muscles are weak or shortened they must be strengthened or forced to lengthen once again.

Why use the Wobble Chair?

All of the chemicals and materials of normal spinal discs are present even in pathological and aged spinal discs. But spinal discs don't have their own blood supply so there has to be another way to pump the nutritious fluids into discs and then squeeze out wastes. While physical activity can create a pumping force, Vert Mooney, M.D., a world-renown researcher and orthopedic surgeon cites loading and unloading the lumbar discs as the best way to create a pumping force that produces fluid exchange, which hydrates the discs. And that's exactly what the Wobble Chair does. For a strong, healthy, pain-free back at any age, we prescribe performing loading and unloading exercises with the Wobble Chair twice daily.

Dr. Azim, what do you think about any kind of accident, especially auto accidents?

Any auto accident even at very low speed can change the course of a person’s life forever if it is not taken care of in the proper way. Discs can tear, bulge, herniate, and the process of arthritis will speed up. In my office I can show the damage specifically based on science and medical x-rays and discover what has gone wrong in the accident. I can discuss this with you and how it can be fixed.
